Description:
NW Instituto Latino’s mission is to support the Latina/o/x and Spanish-speaking community on their path to recovery. They believe that through the power of our culture and a strong community, those struggling with alcohol and drug disorders can improve and find their own path to recovery. NW Instituto Latino’s '''Support Center''' offers long-term barrier-free no-cost culturally specific bilingual addiction recovery support services in Spanish/English to the Latina/o/x and Spanish-speaking community in the Portland area. Because they are not a treatment provider, they do not charge for their services and do not require health insurance. They work with anyone who is seeking support for alcohol and drug recovery. Everyone is welcome, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ability, ethnic identity, immigration status, or family status. The Center employs exclusively bilingual staff members (Spanish and English) and the main language used at the Center is Spanish. The Center has a stabilization room, a computer room for job searches, Wi-Fi, a conference room, a kitchen, and a supply closet. There are mentors on site who run “processing groups” for elders, men, and women. AA, NA, self-help, and LGBTQ support groups are held in Spanish. Food is provided during meetings. In additional to mentors, the Center employs two case managers and a harm reduction manager. Center staff also provide outreach on the street. The Center stocks and distributes syringes, Narcan, condoms, sharp containers, socks, tents, sleeping bags, coats, and hygiene items.
