CAHOOTS services ended in Eugene, Oregon, in April 2025 after the city and the organizing body, White Bird Clinic, severed their contract. The termination was due to a combination of factors, including significant funding cuts, service hour reductions, and a lack of financial capacity to continue operations.

Reasons for the change

Funding and contract termination: The City of Eugene announced it would no longer provide funding for CAHOOTS, leading White Bird Clinic to terminate its services in the city.

Service reductions: Before the termination, the program had already reduced its service hours significantly due to budget shortfalls. Staff layoffs: The cuts resulted in about 80% of CAHOOTS's staff being laid off.

What happened to the services

CAHOOTS services are no longer available in Eugene.

Residents in need of crisis services in Eugene are now directed to Lane County's Mobile Crisis Services or can call or text 988.

Potential future developments

While the original CAHOOTS program is gone in Eugene, there are efforts to potentially bring back a similar program, such as the new Willamette Valley Crisis Care service, which may aim to fill the gap in Eugene.
