Description
BRAVO Youth Orchestra is committed to serving students with the greatest need for access to quality music and arts instruction and connecting them to the world of opportunity that these disciplines provide. BRAVO Youth Orchestra seeks to transform the lives of underserved youth through intensive orchestral music education. They offer a number of after school programs that foster teamwork, self-control, and focus including a choir class, youth orchestras, and BRAVO’s HS Mentorship program designed to help high school students mentor younger students and learn important skills like goal setting, work ethic, and effective communications. The program also offers internship opportunities for students to gain work experience in areas like grant writing and event planning, as well as time and space to improve their musical skills by participating in student-led chamber music ensembles. BRAVO also runs an In-school Headstart Residency Program and a Community Orchestra which provides an opportunity for students, BRAVO’s staff, and community musicians to play and learn new repertoire in an orchestral environment with rehearsals on Friday from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Buckley Auditorium on the University of Portland Campus, 5000 N Willamette Blvd., Portland, Oregon 97203 (contact the orchestra manager, Marian Gitierrez-Curiel at marian@oregonbravo.org ).
